  1. Loved your video. Some great tips also. I’ve thought about creating a few videos, but spare time is limited and I’ve always worried about copyright issues. Thanks for the links to the various sites.
I also shared your post on twitter and facebook.

    1. Thank you for sharing. You do have to worry about copyright so that’s why you have to read the directions on the different sites. For example, Unsplash lets you use the photos as long as you change them in some way. I also get photos from 123rf. They charge about $1-2 each. But they put up free ones everyday.

  2. I’ve been fence-sitting about a trailer for an upcoming release but you pushed me over. I hope I can do half as well because you did a fantastic job. Sets quite a tone and gives just he right amount of info about the book. Looks very professional and slick!

  3. Thanks for this post. I’ve been fence-sitting about a trailer for an upcoming release but you pushed me over. I hope I can do half as well because you did a fantastic job.

    1. The best way to learn is to dive in an try it. Don’t be afraid to experiment. You can save lots of different versions and then pick the one you like the best. My best advice is to keep it short. Too many try to tell too much. Mine’s one minute long. If you have questions as you go along, just ask.

  4. Well done! Me, too, brand new at marketing. It’s an experiment, trial, and error. Fingers crossed for you.

  5. This is fantastic, Zara. Great use of imagery and the word choices drew me straight in. Thank you so much for sharing the tips to create. Have you found the trailer to be helpful in sales and or bring more readers to your site?

    1. I only created it late Friday night so I have no idea how effective it will be on a large scale. I posted it on Facebook and my blog yesterday morning. Three people have comments on Facebook saying they ordered the book after seeing the trailer. I am brand-new at all this promo so I have been reading and researching and supposedly video gets the highest SEO ratings on the web. Next I am going to try an author interview like I found on the publisher sites.

  6. The music was perfect for the theme! I love the intro as well. I’ll have to remember this for my sequel. Thank you so much for tackling this subject for all of us.

    1. I’m glad you liked the music. It was actually a totally free Halloween theme, but it worked. I think the music is key to setting the mood – that’s why it is used in films. The track I used was longer than a minute so I had the option of clipping it off at the start too. If you need any help with your trailer, just let me know.
