  1. Hi Laurie,

I have to admit that it was twenty years ago and I don’t remember so much. I was simply so happy to get out of the house. My son had been born and I was at home. It was one of the first times for me to leave my husband in charge of baby and enjoy myself. The lecture was held in a public library and was fairly well attended. I read several of the Inspector Morse series while I was in London. I often visited the library and really enjoyed discovering authors I had never seen in the US.

As for how I develop my mysteries, I’m not sure. I pay attention to the news. Often it’s a case of asking “what if” or thinking about the characters and what could happen to them. As long as I can throw in a dead body, I’m good. 😉

I’m so happy that you liked Killer Secrets! I hope you like Killer Lies as well.

  2. Hi Zia,

How neat that you got to hear Colin Dexter (Inspector Morse) speak. We’ve just discovered the Endeavour series on TV which covers Morse’s early career. We’ve not yet picked up the part of the TV series where he is older and is Inspector Morse.

What did you find most interesting about Colin Dexter’s presentation or his work?

How do you develop your mysteries? Do you start with the mysteries and then develop characters or do you start with characters and develop mysteries for them to solve?

It’s great to see you here. I’m looking forward to the release of Killer Lies. I loved Killer Secrets.

    1. You are most welcome Zia. Thank you for the compliment on my website. It is a work in progress. But my background is in art and I love playing around with the design. Your website is very nice and clean looking too. I love your opening photo and your logline. Zara

      1. That explains it. I looked at the bottom of the page to see who had designed your site. 🙂 I envy you your artistic eye. I am comfortable with words, but as one of my artistically creative friends said to me, “You aren’t a visual person, are you?”
