    1. Hi, Sydell! For a long time, I couldn’t sell my books. Then I was turned on to writing short fiction which you know of. I really honed my craft there and love writing short. Many hugs!

  2. I’m a huge fan of Nancy Drew and Mary Stewart, Vicki! Enjoyed the interview and getting to know you more. Wishing you all the best!

    1. Hi, Mary! Isn’t it interesting how so many writers have been influenced by Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, etc. I appreciate you commenting today.

  3. I’ve had similar contest-judge experiences. The appropriate response is to do exactly as you did. Some people let the awe-inspiring power of being a judge at a writing contest go straight to their heads, don’t they? Best of luck with the new release!

    1. Hi, Sorcha! As I’ve critiqued and judged over the years, I am paranoid I would do to someone what was done to me. I hope I don’t. I don’t want to dissuade anyone from their dreams.

  4. Hi Vicki,
Loved hearing your journey, good you decided your destiny or we’d have missed the fun of reading your books. Good Luck with your new release!

    1. Hi, Reggi! I’m so glad I continued my journey. The growth I’ve made in my writing life… When I first told Handsome what I was doing, he got a strange look on his face and said, “You’ve changed.” I believe I needed the change, too.

  5. I love this, Vicki!- I decided “no one can determine my destiny but me.”
If only we all lived by this code. Great post and congrats on your new release!

    1. Hi, Jacquie! Thank you. If I hadn’t been strong enough to say that, I’d probably have quit. And then all the fabulous doors that have been opened, all the wonderful people and writers I’ve met, all the accomplishments I’ve made wouldn’t have happened. That would have been sad. Hugs!

    1. Hi, Melissa! Oh thank you. I think it was at that point I grew thick skin and have been able to let things roll off my back. Hugs!
